Our lives with Little Angel--

“It is true that we don't know what we’ve got until we lose it, but it is also true that we don’t know what we’ve been missing, until it arrives.” - She arrives on Jan 17, 2009. Our life has been changed since then.

Stood Up

Isabel can pull herself up already. She started to do this 3 days ago and is pretty good at it now.

Isabel is sick-- for the 1st time

Isabel is sick, really sick for the 1st time. On Oct 21(wed), she started developing fever, and it reached 104F (40C) the next day. She became weak and fussy, and lost her charming smile. Fortunately, her fever is responsive to Tylenol and cooling pad.
We visited the doctor on Friday, and the doctor said she got H1N1 flu without a 2nd thought. ' There are so many sick kids and I don't want to miss the 48 hr window of opportunity to treat her.' Without taking any test(which the doctor said had 40% percent chance of false negative), we picked up tamiflu from the pharmacy for her.
After feeding her with this ultra-bitter medicine for 2 days, she started to develop rash, first on her upper body and later on her face,
although her fever subsided. We started to wonder whether she really had the 'swine flu', or it was a side effect of the medicine. After searching the net, consulting some experienced parents and calling the nurse hotline, we are pretty sure she got Roseola, a common virus with minimum harm. Moreover, there is no effective medicine to treat it (just need to take care of the fever) and the patient will usually recover fully within 3 days after the rash appears.
One day passed, and the rash became worse, but still not on her lower body. Isabel turned from a lovely, active baby to a fussy girl, only needs mother's care.
We patiently waited for 3 days and the rash finally disappeared after day 3. 1 week after the first onset, she returned to normal and start crawling actively and start greeting people with a big grin and her own style of greeting, more like yelling:)

We are glad that this time she only had a minor illness which triggered her immune system. Last but not least, we decided to get her vaccinated for H1N1, as she hasn't got it so far.

Isabel’s motor skill

Isabel starts to crawl about two months ago. But her crawling style looks more like soldiers bellying through the underbrush. If you put something out of her reach, she will figure out how to get there, no matter what. We brought her to my colleague’s house; his baby girl Michaela who is a month younger than Isabel and of course a lot skinner, can crawl on her fingertips and tiptoes. After playing with baby Michaela, Isabel was so embarrassed and she starts to practice on all foursJ.  The funny thing is that she can only rock back and forth, she is not moving anywhere.

All in a sudden, on her 9 months birthday, she is finally pushing off with her knees. She can move forward so much faster this time and I think we have to chase her around the house sooner or later.  I was just thinking what toy to buy to help her develop skills, then I received a newsletter from babyzone with the following recommendation for baby age 9-12 month:

Push toys: Push toys give your toddler a chance to exercise his new walking skills. Choose a push toy, like a wagon, that is heavily weighted so your baby can lean into it, and take a lap or two around the living room.
Shape sorters: Trying to figure out why the square block won't go through the round opening is a nice challenge for early problem-solvers. This is one of those toys that fascinate, and only occasionally frustrate, babies this age.
Balls: He's encountered them before, but balls get even more thrilling when you assume a standing position and can actually bounce them off the floor.
Toy telephone: Babies love to imitate their parents. Even if he can't say much yet, a baby will try to communicate by holding the receiver and pushing buttons. The more realistic the phone, the better.
Books: At this age, children are particularly intrigued by books with flaps that open, textures that can be rubbed, and bunnies that need patting.
Blocks: Blocks give him the chance to practice the art of stacking. He can probably stack three or four at this point, so the subsequent crash is gratifying.
Pail and shovel: These tools come in handy when your baby's all-time favorite activity is filling and dumping, filling and dumping. Take these along to the sandbox, or out to the park and your baby will stay contented and busy for some time.

Viva Las Vegas, Viva Las Vegas!

Oh my god, I am so scared. You must be crazy, you bring a baby?”

这可忙坏了我们两个,一直要应付路人的善意,“Hi, sweetie, she is a cute baby.” “Thank you, thank you, you have a good day”.
